FAQs

  • What is Digitize It Media?
We are a company that digitizes and enhances different types of media, including, video, audio and images. We want to preserve your memories so that you can enjoy them for years to come! We use professional equipment and processes to convert your media to digital formats. When you place an order you determine how many "items" (audio, video or images) you want to have digitized. An "item" is considered as one cassette tape, one record, or one video tape. If you are digitizing any slides, negatives or photos, then we count 25 images as one item. Once your order is placed we will ship you a Digitize It Media box which includes the following items: - A pre-paid USPS shipping label including $100 in insurance (you can insure it for more for an additional fee). - Barcode labels for each of your items. - Return shipping is included for all your items. - If you are sending photos, negatives or slides you will find a smaller 4"x 6" box inside for your pictures and slides. Please see our Shipping FAQs and shipping guide for instructions on how to ship these items. Once you receive your box please make sure your items are an then carefully pack your items and drop them off at any USPS location.
  • What is considered an item?
  • Can I send however many items I want?
Yes, you definitely can! Some companies require you to send/order items only in increments of 5, 10, 20,40, etc. and then they if you want to send extra items they charge you extra ($17.99 per item). What if you only need 3 items you need digitized? We are NOT like them. That is complete nonsense. Send us as many items as you want! If you have one item send us one item!
  • What makes you different from other digitizing companies?
1- First off, you won't wait 6 months to get your order back from us! If it takes us that long to get your items back to you, you should get a refund. We offer quick turn-around times. We ask that you give us between 2-10 weeks, however in most cases we should be able to digitize your media in approx. 2-4 weeks. This of course depends on how many items you send us and how many orders in total we have to complete. Also, if you have added enhancements to your order that can take a little more time, however we will still work to get your items back to you in a timely manner. Also, will keep you informed of where we are in the process with your order. If you have questions please contact us. 2- Second, we allow you to send us however many items you want. We don't require you to send items in increments of 2, 5, 10, 20 or 40, like some other companies. If you have 1 item send us 1 item if you have 3 items send us your 3 items and if you have 100+ items send us your 100+ items (you will also get a discount for the bulk quantity). 3- Third, we offer enhancements and restoration! Most companies only offer digital conversion, but we also offer enhancement. For an additional fee, we can often enhance your audio recordings, videos and images. We can't make your audio recordings sound like Grammy award winning recordings and we can't make your 1970's family videos look like the latest Marvel movie, but we can often remove unwanted noise from recordings and make it easier to hear the person speaking. In some cases, we can also enhance your images so they look less faded and dull or enhance your video resolution. This all depends on the quality of the original audio, video or image. If your images were taken with a dirty lens or your printed negatives or images have dots or debris that are part of the original we obviously can't remove that, but we can enhance things like color and lighting. The same is true of audio recordings and video. We can lessen the noise or hums in audio recordings and we can emphasize voices or speaking, but we can't remove someone screaming. Actually, we could, but then that would change the recording. Enhancements are things like improved colors, improved lighting, changes in size, less tape noise and hiss, improved vocal and speaking emphasis (in order hear what is being said) and upscaling of video. If you add an enhancement and for some reason we are unable to fulfill that enhancement we will refund you the cost of the enhancement, minus shipping and conversion fees.
  • What if I order/send items and they don't fit in the box?
We have carefully chosen custom size boxes that should be able to accommodate the number of items you order. Here is how it works-- if you place an order for 8 items, we will send you a box that should be able to hold those 8 items and possibly a couple more items. If your order was for 8 items, you should only include the exact 8 items from your order. You can choose to add additional items to the box if they fit and you will be billed according to the final quantity of items. Example: Mary places and order to send 8 items (2x VHS tape + 2x VHS-C tape + 2x cassette tapes + 2x microcassette tapes). Mary will receive a box that should fit all of her items and may have room for a few additional items. If she decides to add 2 more items (1x additional VHS tape and 1x additional cassette tape). Mary will be charged the same amount as if she ordered 10 items. If she simply sends the original 8 items from her order there will be no additional charges.
  • Will you edit, improve or restore my media items?
Yes, for an additional fee we can in some cases enhance or improve your media. Just like you can't turn plastic into gold or a rusted VW Beetle into a Lamborghini, we can't make your videos look like the latest Marvel movie and we can't make your audio recordings sound like Grammy award winning recordings, but we can in some cases make enhancements or improvements. If your audio tape or video tape has a lot of noise like hum, tape hiss, wow, flutter or the vocals/person speaking is difficult to hear, we can in some cases enhance the audio and improve these issues. If your images are dull or faded we can in some cases improve the color. If you have images with debris that was part of the original image or negative, we can't remove the debris, but we may still be able to make some improvements. Enhancing old media that was created with imperfections is difficult, but in many cases we still make some small improvements or adjustments. If you have any questions please contact us. Here are some examples below:

  • Do you support Dolby Noise reduction, if so what types do you support?
Yes, we support both Dolby B and Dolby C noise reduction. Please ensure to note on the cassette tape or the cassette tape case what type of noise reduction was used during recording. We will use the same noise reduction type during the digitizing process, unless you contact us or indicate on the order you prefer us not to use noise reduction during digitization. If you are unsure whether Dolby noise reduction was used during recording we will assume it was not used and we will not use it during the digitizing process. We offer audio enhancement and cleanup for an additional fee. During the enhancement process we can usually improve playback by removing some unwanted noise and enhancing or emphasizing vocals and speaking. (See audio enhancement FAQ for more details).
  • What types of audio media do you support?
Supported: Standard size audio cassette tapes Microcassette tapes Records (33-1/3 rpm, 45 rpm and 78 rpm) Not supported: Reel-to-reel Mini-cassette tapes Digital compact cassette tapes (DCC) DAT Please note mini-cassette tapes do not use a capstan system and thus do not have the same holes as microcassette tapes. Mini-cassette tapes are also slightly longer in size than microcassette tapes. Standard Size Audio Cassette Tape ✔️ ✔️ ❌
  • Can you transfer microcassettes in stereo?
Yes and no. Any microcassette tapes you send us where the audio is dictation or speaking AND there is only audio on the left or right channel, not on both channels, we will duplicate the audio to both channels. If the audio is dictation or speaking or music and it was recorded in stereo we will copy it exactly as it is. This way when you go to playback the audio on a sound system you will hear sound through both speakers instead of just one. If you are planning on sending us a microcassette tape that contains stereo audio and/or music recordings please let us know. If you have any further questions about this please let us know.
  • What if my standard cassette tape only has audio on one channel (L or R), not both?
No problem! We will duplicate the audio from whichever channel has audio, to the channel that does not have audio on it, unless you indicate you do not want us to do this. That allows you to hear the audio through both speakers when playing the audio back. We will only do this if there is audio missing on one channel, otherwise if both channels (L and R) have audio on them we will digitize them exactly how they are.
  • Will my audio recordings be separate in to individual tracks like on a CD?
Great question! Yes, we offer audio enhancement for an additional fee. including separating audio into individual tracks like on a CD. The cost of audio enhancement is per audio tape or record as it is time intensive. Audio Enhancements reduce hum reduce "tape hiss" reduce overall noise decrease wow decrease flutter decrease clipping vocal/speaking emphasis (so you can hear someone better) Audio Track separation (like a CD, individual tracks instead of one long audio file) When we enhance an audio recording we are able to make small improvements to the audio, like lessening the amount of hum, "tape hiss", wow, flutter, improve vocal audio or speaking so a speaker can be more easily heard. We can also separate the audio in to individual tracks. It is important to understand that the quality of the original recording greatly affects how much we can improve or enhance a recording. We cannot remove all noise or make the audio recording sound like a CD, but we can lessen the affects of you pay for audio enhancement, we will send you a sheet with your order and you will need to indicate If you pay for audio enhancement we will send you a sheet in your box that you can use to list the Please see the audio enhancement FAQs for more details about audio, video and imaging enhancements.
